SUKEM experience

Joining the handball selection for SUKEM (Sukan Universiti Kampus) was an exciting opportunity. I was eager to showcase my skills and hopefully secure a spot on the team. The selection was a casual but competitive event, with everyone giving their best effort. I felt a mix of nervousness and determination as I stepped onto the court, ready to give it my all alongside my peers. It was a chance to enjoy the sport I loved while representing my campus.

During one of the games, however, things took an unfortunate turn. I was trying to make a quick pivot to avoid an opponent when I landed awkwardly on my foot. Immediately, a sharp pain shot through my ankle, and I knew something was wrong. I tried to shake it off, but the swelling and pain made it impossible to continue. My friends quickly helped me off the court, and after a closer look, it was clear that I had sprained my ankle. The realization that my chances of making the team were over was disappointing.

Recovering from the injury was both frustrating and humbling. I had to rest and avoid putting pressure on my ankle, which meant sitting out and watching others play. It was difficult not to feel left out as my friends continued with the selection process, but they were incredibly supportive, checking in on me and keeping me updated. Despite the disappointment, I used the time to focus on my recovery and reflect on how easily things can take an unexpected turn, even in the most straightforward situations.

Although I didn’t make the team, the experience taught me valuable lessons about resilience and adaptability. It reminded me to listen to my body and prioritize safety, even in moments of excitement. I also realized how important it is to have supportive friends who can lift you up during tough times. While I wasn’t able to participate in SUKEM that year, the setback gave me a new perspective on handling challenges, and I came out of it stronger and more determined.
